Transferring Paints To Dropper Bottles for Airbrushing and DIY Medium
There are plenty of videos on transferring your paints from the Citatel style pots to dropper bottles, but most of them use smaller 15/17 ml bottles. I this video I'll show you how to transfer a single Citadel pot (Vulkan Green) to a 30ml dropper bottle.
You'll need to make some Lahmian(ish) Medium (recipe from Luke at Geek Gaming Scenics) which is super easy to make and definately something you need in your tool box.
Then we just use that to thin the paint in the Citadel pot and transfer it over using a pipette.
If I can manage it without making a mess then So. Can. You!

Magnetizing the new Contemptor Dreadnought (HH, WH40K) from the Age of Darkness
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.2 года назад
So I finally got round to building the new Contemptor Dreadnought that came with the Age of Darkness "starter" box for the Horus Heresy. It's a really nice model and easy enough to build with the added bonus that I am 99% sure that who ever did the design for the weapons did it with magnetization in mind. All you need is some 4mm x 1mm magnets and you're good to go. Oh, also some superglue. but...
MADE TO ORDER - Chaos Space Marines: Aspiring Champion
Просмотров 8272 года назад
This model was released for pre-order last weekend (at time of publishing) and got shipped out mid-week. It's still available as of today, so if you want one you'd best order soon (UK at least, not sure of other regions). It's a really nice model that goes quite well with the newer CSM range, but the base is only 25mm and will need some work. No options for this so it's only what you see here. ...
[NEW] SQUATS - Ironhead Squat Prospectors

New Squat models from Gamesworkshop. Ok so it's not 40k directly, its only for Necromunda. Which is kinda surprising when you think about it, if you'd have asked me I'd have said the first release would have been for Kill Team. These guys come in a box of 8, with a few weapon choices, but it is a box with two identical sprues so it's a bit limited with what you can do with it. Price was £28 if ...

    What are the equivalent measurements in decimal fractions for the magnets? Most places only sell them in decimal fraction sizes and nothing seems to add up. For example the 2x1mm magnets, 1/16 is only 1.5mm, 1/8 is too big at 3mm, and 1/32 is too small at 0.80mm.

    • @GoodEnoughWargaming
      @GoodEnoughWargaming Месяц назад

      You should be ok to go slightly over. The main thing is to get drill bits to match the magnet sizes you are going to use. You can use the butt end of the drill bit to check to make sure there is enough space for the magnet just by holding it against the part

    • @GoodEnoughWargaming
      @GoodEnoughWargaming 5 месяцев назад

      You can, doing the different barrels to the common chassis isn't that hard. The gap is big enough so you can stick fairly large magnets in so it won't fall off. But then you're left with the problem of all the other bits you normally glue to the chassis (fuel tanks etc). If you're happy to leave them off then go for it ;)

    So how do you get around the issue of only having enough elbow joints for one gun. It is all well and good to magnetize the shoulder joint, but the thermal Cannon, rapid fire Cannon, and the Gatling Cannon all use the same elbow and only one left and right comes in the kit.

    • @GoodEnoughWargaming
      @GoodEnoughWargaming 7 месяцев назад

      It's just the thermal cannon and battle cannon that share bits. You can magnetise the gun from the shield part so you can glue the barrels to their shield and put a magnet in that then a matching magnet in the body of the gun so you can swap between them. The gatling cannon is on another sprue and has it's own bits. You can see them if you look at the pictures of the sprues on the gw store

    For the guns, I glued magnets on the inside instead of drilling holes through them. I did have to drill into the turret as you did, but I used some 2 part resin to secure the magnets inside the battle cannon, and the best part is that the magnet is being pulled into the glue, and thus pulled into the side of the gun plate by the magnet in the turret. It'll never come out.

    For a stronger pull and longer effective magnetisation of the magnets themselves, it helps to have a nailhead circle on the "gun" and "armor plates" instead of another magnet, that way the polarity isn't lost over time as it's just magnetic pull in one direction, and not in both.

Never trim up tight to the model unless the attachment point is hidden (like the sole of a shoe or like where an arm attaches to the body). You could buy a magnet that's got different colours for the north and south poles and use that as a master. I usually don't care that much about North South, I just try to make sure all models that will use the same weapons are magnetised the same way. Like I'd do my tau battle suits all the same, but I don't care if they match my Imperial Knights for example.

    Do you have to buy additional gun joints to have multiple attachments?

    • @GoodEnoughWargaming
      @GoodEnoughWargaming 11 месяцев назад

      No. The normal build instructions mean you glue the gun around the shoulder post, to magnetise you cut the end off the shoulder post and replace it with a magnet then you put a magnet inside the gun where the shoulder post would usually be (making sure to watch out for the polarity of the magnets). That way you can do all the weapons with the two shoulder posts that come in the kit

    I have one of these, but for some reason I almost immediately start getting clogging or sth where it only sprays when I yank the trigger back and forth, not sure if it'd help to buy a higher quality one, or if I should use a bigger nozzle, or if my paint just sucks (using Revell, thinned, but I'd have to thin it down so much for it to spray smoothly that it's more of a wash than a real paint coat) - already took it apart and deep cleaned it and it sprays thinner liquids just fine, but as soon as I use paint it starts to clog...

      Check to make sure your needle tip isn't bent, if it is that can cause posting to clog. Also white paint seems to clog faster. If it's drying on the tip and causing clogs you can try adding a few drops of retarder to the thinner to slow that down. Cheap brushes use cheap needles and those can have more imperfections that cause paint to dry and clog. Having said all that, the paint does need to be thin to work, skimmed milk is what's often used as a standard to measure by.

    Interesting. In all of the videos I've seen so far they say not to dilute the primer because it loses bonding power and can be scratched off. Even the instructions on the primer bottle say that thinning is not needed. So why add water? Unless you're using a small diameter needle which isn't for priming anyway, it shouldn't clog?

      I find the primer is just easier to put on when thinned. I don't tend to use a lot, it's just something for the paint to bond to other than the raw plastic. But I always say try out different methods yourself and see what works best for you. It's usually a good idea to follow manufacturers instructions, at least the first time, but I always find myself experimenting, probably when I never get anything done, too busy trying stuff

    Yep, pretty much what I figured for the job, but it's always a good idea to see if someone else agrees before you start drilling holes. Thanks.

    What is that green color? I needs to know

    • @GoodEnoughWargaming
      @GoodEnoughWargaming Год назад

      It's my DIY candy metallic. You just start off with a nice, bright metallic silver, then use a mix of acrylic gloss medium with a few drops of acrylic ink, all things down to go through the airbrush.

    Would a 3mm magnet work on the arm instead of the 4mm one? great video, also the big knights one, by far the most helpfull guides I found, keeping it simple and I love that
